◆A Little Visitor

A Little Visitor

The other day, when I was working in my teaching room, I heard a very subtle1 sound. Rustle rustle … It was so subtle that I let go of the sound two times but finally when I heard it for the third time, I started looking around to find out who or what was making it.

… and guess who was playing hide-and-seek2 with me. This little creature — a Japanese grass lizard3! ( He was not aware that he was found! )

I just loved it so much — this little shadow on the paper sliding door4.

Maybe it came in when I opened the windows to air the room out5?

First I called my kid up into my room to share this fun moment, and two of us put our heads very quitely over to the other side to get a good look at him.

Our eyes met!! I mean the human ones and the reptilian6 ones. We, the human beings, went "WOW!" to see that cute expression on its face plus his wonderful acrobatics like Spiderman, but he stayed still right there even as we had this encounter7. ( Or he was not able to move when suddenly seeing our huge heads, not one but two, sticking out8 right in front of him. )

He didn’t move for a long time. It seemed that he was just enjoying a warm sun bath9 and a vertical10 view of the world, but in the end we caught him and released him into our garden. ( I wish I could have asked him if he would prefer to stay in my warm room. He’s welcome anytime! )
