A Sign of Spring 2013

   Last year, I wrote about butterburs¹ under the same title. This year, horsetails which came out of the cracks² of the concrete!  

  It’s been unusually warm and we started enjoying the spring sunshine already. The report of  the cherry-blossom front³ is making the weather forecast more interesting, but these are things that everybody sees.

  I found something that really made me feel personally⁴ that spring has arrived. Look at these horsetails⁵!  

  I was jogging near the Hirose River, and they were lined up⁶ on the side of the street. When I see plants sprouting⁷ in early spring, I’m often strucked by the power of life. It’s so amazing that they react to a little change of temperature when it’s still cold and the workings of nature get active. 

  The heart-moving experience that these horsetails gave me was not only that. They also gave me an interesting encounter⁸. You can see an old guy way behind the horsetails in the photo, right? Of course, at the point when I was squatting⁹ on the street to take this photo, he was just somebody walking there, but minutes later when I finished taking several photos and stood up, he was right behind me, just a meter away, also squatting and taking photos of the horsetails. Of course I said "Hi" and we exchanged a few words, These horsetails connected two strangers on the street.

  This morning’s jogging brought me some fun experiences. Kind of nice!!

春の兆し ２０１３

　去年は、同じタイトルでふきのとうについて書きましたが、今年はコンクリートの割れ目から出てきたつくし！

ここしばらくいつになく暖かい日が続き、私たちはすでに春の日差しを満喫し始めました。さくら前線の話題も天気予報を見るのをさらに楽しくさせてくれます。でも、これらはみんなが同じように触れるもの。

　でも、一人「春だなぁ！」と感じたのがこちら。このつくしです！

　今朝、広瀬川の近くを走っていたら、道端に一列に並んでつくしが生えていました。早春に植物が芽を出し始めるのを見ると、よく自然の力に驚かされます。植物がまだ寒いときに気温の小さな変化をキャッチして、自然の生命の営みが活発になるってとても不思議と思います。

　つくしが私の心を動かした体験はもう一つ。人との出会いもありました。写真のつくしのずっと後ろにおじさんが見えるでしょ？もちろん、地べたにしゃがんでこの写真を撮っていたこの時点では、単にそこを歩いている私には関係ない人でしたが、数分後何枚か写真を撮り終わって立ったとき、私のすぐ後ろ、ほんの１メールのところで、このおじさんもしゃがんでつくしの写真を撮っていました。もちろん、そこで「こんにちは！」と声を掛け、少し言葉を交わしました。つくしはたまたまそこを通りかかった見知らぬ二人をつなげてくれました。

　今朝のジョギングは楽しい体験をプレゼントしてくれました。なんかちょっといい感じ！
