^{My Energy Source — Red Plants(1)}

  In this cold and gloomy¹ weather (Luckily the last two days haven’t been so cold.), there was one plant that kept me saying "Wow!" all through² the season.

  Why? Because it stayed bright red³ all the winter. The color of its leaves never turn brown⁴. It didn’t show any sign of withering⁵. Simply amazing to see it in the monotone world of winter!

 See! This bright color stood out⁶ even miles away⁷. Every time I passed this spot⁸, it perked me up⁹.  It caught not only my eyes¹⁰ but my heart, too. 

  I checked this plant on the Internet, and I think it must be "Otafuku Nanten." Isn’t it a nice name? (Of course, in this case, I’m taking "Otafuku" as "a lot of hapiness" not "a round and flat face"!) For sure I’ll get one or two of these to cheer up our garden in the winter. My heart is set on it!¹¹

私にエネルギーを与えてくれるもの、赤い植物（１）

　この寒くてどんよりした天気が続く中（幸運にも、ここ２日程はそんなに寒くないですが）、この冬の間ずっと「スゴッ！」と私に言わ続けたた植物がありました。。

　何故って？冬の間真っ赤な色を保ち続けたからです。決して葉が茶褐色に変色することはありません。しおれる雰囲気もみじんもありませんでした。冬のモノトーンの世界でこの赤が目に飛び込んでくるのは、ただただ驚きでした！

　ほらね！遠くからだってこの鮮やかさ。この場所の横を通る度に、私は元気をもらいました。この植物、私の目のみならず心も捉えて離しませんでした。

　ネットでこの植物を検索してみたら、「オタフクナンテン」というもののようです。名前もいいですよね？（もちろん、この場合「おたふく」を「丸くて平べったい顔」ではなく「お多福」の漢字の意味を取っている訳ですが。）絶対、冬の庭を楽しくさせるために、１つか２つ手に入れようと思っています。決～まり！
