◆Pumpkin 2016

Pumpkin 2016

Yesterday morning, we picked our pumpkin and got it up the hill to the house with the help of our friend’s family and a very nice man who just happened to be passing by1 with his dogs.

Of course, usually, we push the harvesting2 time to as close as possible to Halloween. Recently, however, sometimes the stems3 split4 and the pumpkins start rotting5. Even when that happens, we still try to postpone it until the end of September.

This year, we had no choice6. We had 3 pumpkins a month ago. One, while it was growing, suddenly rotted and was gone. To avoid that happening to the other two, we decided to pick the other two as soon as possible.

  This brings us to yesterday.

When we started, we found that the smaller one was rotten on the bottom, so with heavy hearts we left it to the bugs7…

Here is the surviving pumpkin — and luckily the biggest.

Because we grow them on a slope, as they get bigger they want to roll. So this one is upside down. The pressure on the stems sometimes makes the stems split. That’s the beginning of the end.

Anyway, 5 people put their energy together and got the pumpkin to its spot. We might not have a pumpkin at Halloween, but we’ll always have the photo of our friends’ the little girl and the pumpkin. That’s a good way to remember our pumpkin of 2016!

Thanks to our friends and the guy with dogs! (^-^)
