Coming home to Seattle 3

 　                    
　 On the weekend, all the family got together¹ at Will’s sister’s house.

  This is Easter, so the 3 kids in the family enjoyed an Easter basket hunt (most families have an Easter egg hunt). We combined Easter with a birthday party for Will’s sister’s daughter, his mom and dad, and me! Since we are here from Japan, they decided to have a group birthday party for all the people whose birthdays are in March and April.      
    

  This is the cake that we celebrated our birthdays with²! Japanese sweets are often said to be artistic, but look at this! This is also a work of art, isn’t it? We also had a strawberry-rhubarb pie. Rhubarb is a plant with a long stem. It tastes slighty³ sour, but when it’s cooked and sweetened⁴ for jam and sauce, it’s gooood !!

  And here! I want to introduce two of the canine⁵ members of the family who also celebrated our birthday with us.

  (There were two more dogs, but I didn’t get a good photo of them).  One is really big and the other one is really tiny. Are they cute together, or what⁶???

  If you are a dog lover, you would have a lot of fun here. You meet dogs wherever you go⁷, and not only that, people keep many many many "BIG" dogs as a member of the family. Yeah, the land is big and the houses are big. You "re"alize how compact our lives are in Japan.  But the differences are fun!

シアトルへの里帰り　３

　週末、家族みんながウィルの妹の家に集まりました。

　今はイースター。子どもたちはイースター・バスケット探しをしました。（ほとんどの家庭ではイースターの玉子探しですが。）そして、ウィルの妹の娘と、お父さんお母さん、私の誕生日もお祝いしました。私たちが日本から帰って来ているので、３月４月のお誕生日をみんな合わせてのバースデーパーティーとなりました。

　これがそのときのケーキ！和菓子もよく芸術と言われますが、こちらも見てください！これも芸術作品ですよね。他に、ストロベリールバーブ・パイも出てきました。ルバーブとは、茎の長い植物でちょっと酸味があるのですが、これがジャムやソースなど甘～く調理されるととても美味しいんです!!

　そして、こちら！一緒に誕生日を祝ってくれた私たち家族の犬族メンバー、二匹。

（他にも二匹いるのですが、いい写真が撮れませんでした。）一匹はすごく大きくて、もう一匹はすごくちっちゃくて、二匹そろっているとすごく可愛いのなんのって。

　もし犬好きなら、こちらにいると本当に楽しいですよ。どこにいっても犬に出会います。それだけではなくて、沢山、沢山、本当に沢山の大型犬が家族のように飼われています。土地も広い、家も大きい。日本の生活スタイルはコンパクトだなと改めて気付かされます。でもまあ、こういう違いがあるから面白い！
