Something Special
"Pocky" is a snack that everybody grows up with in Japan. When I went on school trips1, I used to have it in my back pack.
Recently Is there an upgraded Pocky? Just a week ago, a student told me that one of the department stores downtown is selling a different Pocky, and surprisingly 2 days later, thanks to Will’s student, we had a chance to taste this sophisticated2 version of Pocky, which is called "Baton d’or"(which means "golden stick" in French. Yes, it sounds very high class, doesn’t it?)
They are really fun!
… and interestingly3, 2 days later again, a student in my French class showed up in class with a souvenir4 from Kyoto. Again some upgraded version of a snack which we were accustomed to5 since we were kids — Kinoko no yama with a green tea flavor6 ("Mushroom Mountain" in English). I knew that green tea flavored sweets are very popular (even with foreign visitors to Japan), but I didn’t know this: There is a green tea version of Kinoko no yama! It seems that they are available7 only in Kyoto.
I enjoyed this one, too.
It’s fun to taste the good old8 snacks with a different point of view9, oops, I mean, taste!
