The World Cup!
Soccer was not that big in me a long time ago, but since I met Will, I have become a soccer fan, too. Even if Japan is not on, I watch games if they are exciting. Unfortunately, it isn’t looking good for Japan right now, I’m hoping for a miracle!
We can feel the World Cup festive mood everywhere right now. The other day, I bumped into1 this cute joke! Look what Snickers put on their chocolate bar2! — Soccers! I like it! Looking at this "soccer" image, we still can read it as "snickers" Clever!!
Before I realized it, I bought a coke with the World Cup design and my family bought me a hamburger marked as a FIFA World Cup official burger(?), so on the table I had a World Cup meal. Ta-da! ( I was a junk food eater on this day. f(^-^;) )
On the other hand, I saw on the news that in Greece after experiencing the economic crisis3, there is no festive mood4 nor even a soccer-related atmosphere5 right now. We have to appreciate6 that we are in a country where we can enjoy the World Cup in this way.
★Trivia : Do you know where the word soccer comes from? It came from "assoc" as in the words "Association football" + er. —"assoccer" and then, "soccer". Around that time, rugby football started to be called "rugger", and people wanted a short version for this football, too.
