We Wish You a Very Merry Christmas!

  Every time I sing this song¹, I remember that I always sang like "We-wi  /  shuwa-meli  / clis-mas" when I was a kid, having no idea² that "shuwa" is from "wish you a".

  Well, our house is finally getting ready for Christmas. Will put up³ our Xmas tree and each family member put some decorations on the tree and around the house. Presents have started stacking up⁴ under the tree. AND From one of Will’s students, we got a very nice handmade present, which I put up⁵ at the top of the page. This added some warmness to our livingroom. It was very kind of her. Thank you very much!

  Will also decorated our entrance hall⁶ very nicely this year. He started collecting metal figures last year and he has displayed them near the front door. I really like how he decorated the spot.

  Some are real antiques⁷, including a few⁸ from his childhood.

  The Santa Claus with the sleigh⁹ and reindeer¹⁰ was actually made in Japan!

  Will found the tiny Santa at an American web shop. It was made in Japan a long time ago,→and it was shipped¹¹ to the states.→Somebody bought it and later somebody sold it.→Will found and bought it,→and it was sent to his parent’s house.→Will brought it back to Japan with him last spring.→And finally, it is being displayed in our entrance hall back in Japan. This Santa really made a long journey, just like the real Santa traveling all the way around the world.

  I wonder what presents I will get from Santa Claus this year.¹¹

　この歌を歌うと決まって、子どもの頃に“ウィーウィッ　シュアメリ　クリスマス”と何故シュアになっているのだか分からずに口ずさんでいたのを思い出します。（でも、なんかこの「シュア」という響きが好きでした…）

　さて、我が家もやっとクリスマスの準備が出来てきました。ウィルがクリスマスツリーを出し、家族みんながツリーや家の中に飾り付けをしました。プレゼントもツリーの下に積み上がってきました。そして、ウィルの生徒の方からステキな手作りのプレゼントが。このページを最初を飾ってくれています。これを飾ったら、ぐっと我が家のリビングルームに温もりが出ました。ご親切にありがとうございます！

　ウィルはまた、今年素敵に玄関を飾ってくれました。昨年よりメタルの人形を集め始めたのですが、それを玄関のドアの近くに並べたのです。その飾り方、私のお気に入りです！

　このメタルの人形のいくつかはアンティークです。ウィルの子どもの頃のコレクションも入っています。

そりに乗ったサンタとトナカイのセットは、実はメイド・イン・ジャパンなんですよ！

　ウィルがアメリカのウェブショップでこの小さいサンタを見つけました。ずっと昔に日本で作られ→アメリカへ送られ→誰かがそれを買い、その後売りに出し→それをウィルが買って→親元へ送り→今年の春にウィルが日本へ持って買えり→やっと、日本の我が家の玄関に飾られている・・・というわけ。本当のサンタが世界を旅するように、このサンタも長～い旅をしました。

　今年はサンタさんから何がもらえるのかな？
