My long pumpkin project is finally done.
The whole project starts around Golden Week when the seeds are planted in pots, inside. It finishes when we put the carved1 jack-o’-lanterns2 outside a few days before Halloween. That’s a long time!
There are three phases3 to our yearly pumpkin project and each phase is fun.
Growing. Getting the seeds4, planting and care.
Keeping. The pumpkins tend to ripen5 as early as mid-August and making them last until the last week of October is a challenge (I worked hard and only lost one this year).
Carving. This is fun, too, but thinking of new designs is hard – and this year we had more pumpkins than ever before, so it took a long time!
On the morning of the 30th, I carved the last Jack-o’-lantern. It’s done!

I’m sure my students and friends will be really happy that my constant talk about pumpkins is coming to an end6.

やっとハロウィーンが来た！
ハッピーハロウィーン！
僕の長～いカボチャプロジェクトもやっと終わります。
毎年この企画はゴールデンウィーク頃に始まります。まずは、家の中で種を鉢に植えるところから。そして、ハロウィーンの数日前に家の外に出して完結します。かなりの長い期間を要します！
この毎年恒例のカボチャ計画には３つの段階があり、そのどれもが楽しいです。
カボチャの栽培：種を購入して、植えて、管理する
カボチャの保存：カボチャは８月中頃ぐらいには出来てしまいます。１０月の最終週までもつようにすることは難題です。（今年は細心の注意を払い、途中でダメになったのは１個だけ）
カボチャを彫る：これも楽しい。でも、新しいデザインを考えるのは大変。そして、今年は今までよりたくさんカボチャが出来たので、更に時間がかかりました。
３０日の朝に最後のジャコランタンを作りました。これで終了！

僕の生徒の方たちや友人たちは、僕のカボチャの話を聞かされるのがもうそろそろ終わるのでホッとするかな～？
