The Lunar Eclipse
How wonderful !
 
Wow, wow, wow !
Did you see the lunar eclipse1 on Saturday night? We really lucked out2. The sky was clear most of the time that night.
We started looking up the sky at about 10:30. It was so amazing ! It’s really weird3 to see the shadow of our earth on the moon.
The moon was waning4 quite quickly. First, we were watcing the moon with binoculars5, but soon I got the telescope6 out and set it on the ground. I lay on the ground to see the moon through the telescope and started taking some photos.
These photos were taken by digi-scoping. Digi-scoping is taking photos with a digital camera attached to the lense of the telescope. The photos are quite nice, huh?
( Will uses this technique to take photos of birds. Actually, our camera is not that sophisticated.)
We were in and out of the house for the next one hour, checking the moon. It was so exiting that we forgot how cold it was.
Often "I" is the center of my life, but in front of the universe, my existence suddenly gave way to7 its vastness. Time and space, and my existence as well, are something that I can’t really get hold of. /(*-*;)

わぁ～！
土曜日の月食見ましたか？本当ラッキーでしたね。土曜の夜はほとんどずっと空に雲はなし。
私たちは１０時半ごろから空を見上げ始めました。それはもう素晴らしかったぁ！月に私たちの地球の影が映ってるなんて、とても不思議。
月が欠けるのは結構あっという間。始めは双眼鏡で月を見ていましたが、すぐ私は望遠鏡を出してきて、地面に据えました。双眼鏡で月を見るために、私も地面に寝っ転がって、それから写真を撮り始めました。
ここに載せた写真はデジスコーピングというやり方で撮ったんですよ。デジスコーピングとは、デジタルカメラを望遠鏡のレンズに付けて写真を撮る方法。わりとよく撮れてるでしょ？
（ウィルは鳥の写真を撮るのにこの方法を使います。私たちのカメラはそんなにスゴ～イものではないんですよ、実のところ。）
月を見ながら、１時間は家から出たり入ったりしてました。もうワクワクしてしちゃって、寒さも忘れるほどでした。
「自分」というものは、よく私の生活の中心にあるけれど、宇宙を目の前にしては、その壮大さに「自分」の存在なんて影をひそめてしまいました。時間とか宇宙空間とか、それに自分という存在とか、なんかつかみきれないものですね。
