Our Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving

In the states1, the 4th Thursday of November is Thanksgiving. Originally a harvest festival, now families get together and have a big meal. The traditional food is turkey and stuffing2 (bread and spices put inside the turkey).

(When I was first invited to a Thanksgiving party, I was a bit surprised at the cramberry sauce served with turkey — but now I like this combination!)

At our house, we don’t officially celebrate thanksgiving, but we often appreciate3 the food we harvest4 from our little garden. It’s almost the end of the growing season, but we enjoy….

Rapsberries — They have been making our morning yogurt so special. We eat them just as they are or as a sauce. It’s always fun to go out and pick them. Maybe we can get them one more time?

Cherry tomatoes — Especially the yellow Aiko was a big hit. They kept coming to our table since June. The skin is soft and they are reeeally delicious. Unless we need big tomatoes, we seldom buy tomatoes at the store. We picked the last tomatoes and we are ripening5 them in the kitchen window.

Fall Cherry tomates — We tried growing these for the first time this year. They don’t produce many, but the taste is quite nice.

Mandarin Oranges — We had just two this year in a pot and waited and waited for them to turn yellow6. One of these days, we will eat them!

Our garden is about to finish producing for this year. It’s a little sad time seeing our garden getting quieter, but the other day Will brought in some potatoes in a bowl.

Oh, yes!! Now it’s potato time! My favorite way of eating home grown potatoes is to boil a whole potato000000000000000000000000(←Tasha did it) and eat it with butter. Yum yum!!
