   The harvest¹ is done! Suddenly quite a few² pumpkins appeared in front of our house at the end of August. That was a fun surprise! While I was out³, Will went to the field where he was growing pumpkins and brought them home.

 　

   The next day, 2 big ones (30kg and 40kg) came to the house. The biggest one (probably more than 50kg) came a few days later. Will couldn’t carry it to the car by himself, so I went to the field with him and we worked together to bring it home.

 

  This is the earliest harvest in his pumpkin-growing history. He always struggles to keep⁴ the pumpkins from rotting⁵, and the last couple of years he harvested the pumpkins in early September and had a lot of trouble with rot⁶. It was a lot of work to dry them and treat them so that the pumpkins would stay OK until Halloween. So this year he decided to take the pumpkins out even earlier when the pumpkins are still healthy not damaged by the scorching heat⁶. So far⁷, this experiment⁸ seems to be working⁹!!

 

  However, we don’t have a barn¹⁰ nor an extra dry room in the house to keep them nice and cool¹¹. Of course we can’t leave them outside because still sometimes it gets hot and sometimes it rains. So now they are all IN THE HOUSE!! I feel like a farmer’s wife living in a barn.

 
 

  Every time I walk in the house¹², in my head I’m singing that song replacing an animal with a pumpkin.

  We will live with pumpkins inside the house until we carve Jack’o'lanterns for Halloween. 2 more months!!
