Belated Happy New Year!
After relaxing for a couple of days after New Year’s day1, I had my nose to the grindstone2 making tests for my college for more than a week. Now January is already half over3.
For the readers to whom we didn’t send our New Year’s card, we would like to send our greeting4 for the new year. May5 2016 be a peaceful and wonderful year!

Speaking of "peaceful", the other day I saw a flock of6 swans flying freely in the sky over the Hirose River. I was really moved, so I’d like to start our blog this year with this topic.
First, I couldn’t tell what kind of birds were flying toward me. Too bad I couldn’t get the camera out7 faster.
I learned this before from animals (on TV, of course). When we see a flying shadow above you, if it is like this <–, having wings toward the front, it could be a raptore8 like a hawk9, so you have to run away.
On the other hand, when the shape is like this –<, having wings toward the back, it is not dangerous. Birds with long necks are usually geese10 and swans.
So, from their shapes, I was relieved11 because they are not dangerous(!), and when I could see their color, soon I was able to tell they were swans. I stopped my bike and looked up.
They flew just above my head and made a big circle three times and after that they landed in the river gracefully12. I could clearly see their faces while flying — they seemed to be having a lot of fun! They were so HUGE and it was amazing that those huge creatures can fly freely in the air. They were SO beautiful and SO cute. It was breathtaking13!!

遅ればせながら、明けましておめでとうございます！
元旦を迎えて２日ゆっくりした後、１週間以上教えに行っている専門学校のテスト作りに必死に取り組んで、気が付けばもう１月も半分を過ぎました。
年賀状を送らなかった読者の皆さまに、ここで新年のご挨拶をしたいと思います。２０１６年が穏やかで素敵な一年となりますように！

“peaceful”と言えば、先日広瀬川で、空を自由に飛んでいる白鳥たちの群れを見ました。とても感動しました。今年のブログはその話から始めようと思います。
初め、遠くから私の方に向かって何の鳥が飛んで来ているのか分からなかったんです。もっと早くカメラが出せなくて、ん～残念。
以前、こんなことを動物から（もちろんテレビで）学んだことがありました。自分の上を飛ぶ鳥の形が<– （翼が前方にある）なら、タカのような猛禽類なので逃げなければならない。
一方で、–< （翼が後方にある）なら、危険ではない。首の長い鳥はたいてい雁や白鳥などだからです。
だから、その形から危険ではないと安心しました（！）。そして、はっきりと色が見えたとき、すぐに白鳥だと分かりました。自転車を止めて、上を見ました。
私の頭の真上を飛んで行き、大きく３回旋回した後、優雅に川に降りました。飛んでいる最中の表情もばっちり見えました。とても楽しそうでした！白鳥はかなり大きい鳥。そんな大きな生き物が自由に宙を舞うなんてスゴイ。とても美しく、そしてとても可愛くて、息を飲むような体験でした！！
