Bird Report 1
Do you remember that two blogs ago, I mentioned about Will’s camera? Here are some of the bird photos he took with his new gadget1.
Oh my, oh my! …sigh… I can’t talk. Isn’t she cute? Will said, "why did you write ‘she’?" When something is cute, don’t you feel that it’s a ‘she’? Is this sexism2? /(^-^;)
This photo was taken near our house, on the bank3 of the Hirose River. Of course she was far away from Will, but with his new camera, we can get her image so close and clear. By the way, this is a swan — a very compact version!
・・・and this is a redstart. A tiny bird with a redish4 tummy5 and back. I love its shape, a little chubby6 friend. When the tummy is yellowish, Narcissus Flycatcher. In Japanese, the names are close, but actually they are different species7.
・・・and this is also one of our favorites, a gray heron. It’s quite big. Often they are sitting on the edge of the fall of the river, waiting to catch some fish. They are around8 quite often in all seasons at the Hirose River. We call them hunchbacks9 just like the guy from the Notre-Dame. They have a very unique appearance. They sit so still and for such a long time that sometimes we wonder if they are alive.
I’m not a birder, but I always enjoy listening to Will talking10 about birds… There are many more photoof fun and cute birds. I’ll show you just little by little. Till next time!

４ - ish は名詞に付けることにより、「～っぽい、～のような感じ」の意味がつくれます。
たとえば、blackish, whitish, pinkishなど。
また、Shall we meet (at) sevenish?（７時ぐらいに会おうか？）のようにも使えます。

鳥レポート １
二つ前のブログで、ウィルのカメラについて話したのを覚えてますか？その新しいカメラでウィルが撮った写真を何枚かお見せ致しま～す。
はぁ～！…溜め息…言葉が出ません。可愛いと思いませんか？ウィルは何でsheを使うのと聞いてきたけれど、可愛いものを見ると、sheで説明したくなりますよね？性差別かな？/(^-^;)
この写真は家の近くの広瀬川の土手のところで撮りました。もちろん、ウィルから離れていたところでこんな風にしていたのですが、新しいカメラではこれだけ近寄れて、画像もこんなに鮮明です。ちなみに、こちらは白鳥です — とてもコンパクトな！
・・・そして、こちらはジョウビタキ。お腹と背中が赤っぽい小さい鳥です。ちっちゃくてぽっちゃりしたこのかたちが私は好き。お腹が黄色いだったら、黄ビタキ。でも、日本語では名前が似ていますが、実はこの二つは違う種です。（英語名で分かるように）
・・・そして、こちらが私たちのお気に入りの鳥の一種、青サギ。サギだけあって、結構な大きさです。広瀬川では全てのシーズンでよく見られます。私たちはノートルダムのセムシ男みたいと言っています。何とも独特な姿格好。あまりにじっと長い間動かずに立っているので、時々生きているの？と思ってしまいます。
私はバードウｵッチャーではないのですが、いつもウィルが鳥の話をするのを楽しく聞いています。面白くて可愛い鳥の写真がまだまだありますので、少しずつお見せしていきます。では、また次回！
