◆Good Bye to the Winter Birds

Good Bye to the Winter Birds

Well, it’s almost spring, or it IS spring. Before we flip1 the calendar to April, let me quickly update our winter bird talk.

It’s almost time for them to head to colder lands. As of March 242, they were still there. On that day, when we stopped at the light, in the car, on the bridge, we looked out at the river as usual. We had a moment of "Are they gone?" Will’s eyes and my eyes were busy trying3 to find their silhouette. A silence for a while…

Then we found them, near a bridge far away from us. For a moment I felt really sad that they were gone — and relieved4 that they were still here.

Of course we are looking forward to warmer weather, but on the other hand5 we don’t want to say good-bye to the swans. You must know this mixed feeling. Since now I’m updating our blog in our house in Seattle (Yes. This is the time) I don’t know if they are gone by now6 or not, but probably gone! Every year, we come back to Seattle around this time, and when we go back to Japan, the river looks quiet without them. This year, there were three or four Ugly Ducklings (full grown, but still grayish). I wonder if7 they will come back to our river next winter. They are very welcome!

Well, since I am yacking8 about birds, I want to finish this blog with one more  photo!

Will took this photo at the beginning of the winter. I can’t imagine putting my face in the icy9 cold water like this. Not to mention10, I can’t keep my body straight upside down in the water like a synchronized swimmer. Bravo!!!

This is one of my favorites of the winter bird collection!
