Halloween 2015
Our Jack-o’-lanterns this year look like this :
 
One in the entrance hall1 and one outside. Can you see a ghost behind one? This ghost came out suddenly. Oh, it sounds spooky2, doesn’t it?
To tell the truth, Will made a mistake while we was carving3 the face, he gave up and carved a new face on the other side of the pumpkin. Then, when we lit up4 the jack-o’-lantern, the original face spooked5 up behind.
Of course, Will grew the pumpkins for our jack-o’-lanterns, starting way back in June. Every year many people are interested in their progress. We really enjoy meeting everyone who stops and talks to us about them. Even when I go get my migraine6 medicine, my pharmacist7 says "The pumpkins are getting bigger, aren’t they?"
It’s been a while, like 6 or 7 years, since Will started growing pumpkins in front of our house. People’s comments are getting rather specific, like "They are bigger than last year, aren’t they?"
Not only that, some people are willing to8 help us move the pumpkins to the front of the house. This year, a boy scout group who were passing by9 by chance10 helped us. They are professional helpers, so they even had some equipment11 to pull it up! Cool! (Interestingly, the adults worked harder than the kids.)
 
For the second one, The working crew12 was Tim, our friend from California (we had been waiting for him to come over and help us!), a guy who was walking his dog (his dog Uta-chan cheered us on from the side!), of course our family members, and the superviser13, our neighbor. It was funny that he came out with thick ropes and a net, saying "This year, I was planning to just watch you guys working, but I couldn’t stay inside the house — you look like you need some help!"
I really enjoy our neighborhood. We meet so many nice people around here. During Halloween, we all get even closer!

ハロウィーン２０１５！
今年のジャコランタンはこんな感じになりました。
玄関の中に飾ったものと外に置いたもの。一つは後ろにお化けが写っているのが見えますか？これ、突然出たんですよ。怖いでしょ～？
実を言うと、ウィルが顔を彫っている時に失敗したので、そちらはあきらめてもう片側に顔を彫ったんです。そしたら、何とジャコランタンを灯したとき、元の顔が後ろに現れたというわけ。
もちろん、今年も６月からウィルはこのジャコランタン用のカボチャを育てました。毎年、皆さんがその成長を楽しみにしてくれています。足を止めて話しかけてくれる方たちと楽しくお話しするのもまた一つの楽しみです。私の偏頭痛の薬をもらいに行くときでさえ、薬剤師さんが「カボチャ、大きくなりましたね～。」と話しかけてくれます。
ウィルが家の前でカボチャを育てるようになってから、かれこれ６、７年になります。「去年よりも大きいんじゃないですか？」などと、皆さんのコメントもかなり具体的な話になります。
眺めているだけではなく、カボチャを家の前まで移動するのを手伝ってくれる方たちもいます。今年はたまたま通りかかったボーイスカウトの一団が手伝ってくれました。プロ集団ですから、カボチャを引き上げる道具も揃っていて、素晴らしかった！（面白いことに、子どもたちより大人の方たちが一生懸命やってくれました。）
二つめのカボチャ引き上げチームは、カリフォルニアから来た友人のティム（彼が手伝いに来てくれるのをずっと待ってました。）、犬の散歩をしていた方（犬のうたちゃんも、横で応援してくれました。）、もちろん私たち家族、そして監督、お隣りさん。面白かったですよ。「今年は見てるだけにするつもりだったけど、やっぱり出てきちゃったよ。手伝いが必要のようだったからね。」と言いながら、お隣さんは太いロープとネットを持って現れました。（感謝！）
この地域の方たちがとても好きです。本当に多くの温かい方たちに出会います。ハロウィーンの間は、さらにみなさんとの距離が縮まる感じです！
