One Stay Here
I’m very sorry that I didn’t update our blog this month until now. It has been a very busy time for us running1 our classes, supporting the switch to online lessons and teaching online lessons which requires2 more energy than teaching in person3. (←Don’t worry! We are accustomed to4 it now and have no problem managing5 them!) Moreover, we are happy, thanks to our students’ support, that we are able to cut down one place in our society where people meet directly.
Anyway, here is a blog which Will prepared for early April to put up on our homepage :
One of the things I always look forward to in the early winterA is the coming of the swans to my part of the Hirose river.
They arrive in the middle of November, and stay until early March. Many people enjoy feeding them, and everybody enjoys seeing them.
Then comes the springB, and we have to say goodbye to these lovely, graceful creatures.
They fly off6 in separate groups – I assume7 families – to spend the summer in their breeding grounds of Hokkaido, China and Russia. Wouldn’t it be fun to know where OUR swans go?
Saying goodbye is always sad, but starting a few years ago an even sadder thing happened. One swan had to stay behind8, while9 all the others left. I don’t know how this swan was injured, but it cannot fly and has to spend the summer with us, waiting for his friends and family to come back next winter.
Of course it is in a pretty good place! Many people feed him? Her? And it is loved and admired10 by all.
Until just the other day our swan was under the Atago Ohashi.

The other day, we got out of the house to take a walk. We saw this swan was still there and people were taking care of it. It looked like he/she has a happy life! We hope so! (Can you see the teeny tiny11 white dot? That’s him/her!)

注）構文の見方
Ａ One of the things ( I always look forward to / in the early winter) is ~ . 基本の骨組みは One of the things is ~. 「（複数ある）事柄の一つは～です。」それに「私がいつも（それら）を楽しみに待っている」「初冬に」が後ろから説明をかけているかたちです。
Ｂ Then comes the spring. は普通の順序に置きなおすと、The springs comes then. 「春がそれからやって来ます。」よりも「それから、春がやって来ます。」とした方が生き生きと感じますよね。「それから」という副詞を強調するために文頭に持ってくるために起こる倒置です。子どもの絵本でもよく用いられる方法です。ex. There comes Dad. (= Dad comes there.) 「そこへ、パパがやって来ました。」

一羽残っています
今月ここまでブログを更新せずにすみませんでした。私たちのクラスを続けるのに忙しくしていました。オンラインクラスへの移行のサポートとか、オンラインクラスを教えるとか。これが直接教えるクラスより結構エネルギーが必要で。（←でも心配しないでください！だんだん慣れてオンラインクラスに上手く対処できてます！）それよりも、習っていらっしゃる方たちの協力のお陰で、この社会から直接人が会う場を一つ減らせたことが嬉しいです。
さてさて、本当は４月の最初に出そうとウィルが準備していたブログをお出しします！
広瀬川の僕が住んでいる辺りまで飛来してくる白鳥は、僕が冬の初めに楽しみにしていることの一つです。（英語の直訳ではあまりに日本語が変なので…。汗）
１１月の半ばにやって来て、３月初旬ぐらいまでいます。多くの人が白鳥たちに餌をあげ、観察することを楽しんでいます。
そうしているうちに、春がやって来ます。この美しくて優雅な鳥にお別れを告げなければなりません。
白鳥たちはいくつかのグループ — 多分家族ごと — に分かれて、北海道、中国、ロシアの繁殖の地で夏を過ごすため飛び立っていきます。ここ広瀬川で過ごしていた白鳥たちがどの土地へ行くのか知れたら面白いでしょうね～。
別れを告げるはいつも寂しいですが、数年前から、もっと悲しいことが起こるようになりました。みんなが飛び立ったても、一羽の白鳥が残りました。どんな風に怪我をおっているのか分かりませんが、飛ぶことが出来ず、友達や家族が次の冬帰って来てくれるのを待ちながら、ここで人間たちと夏を過ごします。
もちろん、その白鳥は結構良い所にいます！多くの人がその白鳥（彼？彼女？）に餌を持ってきてくれます。そして、みんなから大切にされ、喜ばれています。
つい先日まで、僕たちの白鳥は愛宕大橋の下にいました。
面倒を見てもらいながら！
何て美しいんでしょう！
先日、散歩をしに外に出ました。この白鳥がまだいるのを確認しました。そして、お世話している人たちも見ました。いい暮らしを送っているようです！そう願います！（小さな白い点が見えますか？それがその白鳥です！）
