Handmade Double Pane Windows

  After years of suffering from¹ the coldness of winter in this house, I finally created something to solve this problem !

  These are not just photos of windows—These are my handmade double pane windows.

  Thanks to a worker at a D.I.Y. shop, it was not so painful² to make these panels. First, I carefully measured the size of the window frame and calculated how wide and how long each panel frame should be. With that piece of paper, we went to a D.I.Y. shop and there a D.I.Y. staff member cut the wood for us. Even we can ask for a diagonal³ cut !  For the corners, I wanted the wood to be cut at the angle of 45 degrees. It had to be specific !
           

  Not only that, we lucked out⁴ ! They sell wood with a groove⁵. That was a huge point for this project. That made my job way easy. I didn’t have to sweat⁶ figuring out a way to hold a plastic panel in the frame.　Thank Goodness !

  Once when we inquired about the price of a real double pane window, we were told that one window costs about 70 or 80,000 yen. However, by making it ourselves, the cost was about 5,000 yen.  How economically friendly⁷ is that ?

           
  We can really tell the difference ! Warmer than before for sure ! When we go in the room, even if there’s no heater, it’s kind of warm. Ｔhe air is not icy cold⁸.

この家で何年か冬の寒さに耐えた末、やっとこの問題を解決するものを作りました。

ただの窓の写真ではありませんよ—手作りの二重窓です。
           

D.I.Y.のお店の従業員さんのお陰で、パネルを作るのはそれほど骨が折れるものではありませんでした。まず、慎重に窓枠のサイズを測り、パネルの枠の幅と長さを計算。

その紙をもって、D.I.Y.のお店へ。そこで、お店のスタッフが木材を切ってくれます。斜めのカットもお願いできるんです！角の部分を、４５度に切って欲しかったものですから。ぴったり４５度じゃないとね！

それだけではなく、ラッキーだったのは溝付きの木材が売ってたということ。この二重窓作りには大きなポイントでした。私の作業がぐんと楽になりました。プラスチックのパネルを枠に収める方法を模索するのに苦労しなくて済みました。あ～、良かった！

かつて、二重窓について問い合わせたとき、一箇所あたり７、８万すると言われました。でも、自分たちで作ったら費用は約５千円。どれだけお財布にやさし～いの～!?

本当に違いますよ！確実に前よりあたたか！お部屋に入ったとき、暖房がついてなくても、どことなく暖かい。空気がひんやりしてません。

大満足！
