Our Nature Life

 

 

  Suddenly the seasons changed! During the summer when we were just enduring the scorching¹ heat, I couldn’t enjoy the green life, but now it’s the season! Today I’ll give you a report about my plant life.

 

①  I was telling myself I wouldn’t buy plants in the summer because in the heat I can’t keep them in good shape². However, finally the weather got cooler and dryer. Who can resist not buying³ these cute little things? I bought them! Now they are my friends sitting next to the window (with many other friends.)

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

② In the season of harvest, my friend gave me 2 "butter nut squash⁴". This was my first time to try them. To look at them is fun. To eat them is fun. I really enjoyed them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

③  Plants are also looking better now that the heat is over. For people, this fall temperature is easy to live in, but this goes for plants as well. Look! One of my favorites, carathea, started shooting⁵ new leaves. Aren’t they cute? The leaves are nicely folded in a stick and they are gradually⁶ opening up. It’s really fun to watch them day after day⁷.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

④  We finally cut the branches of our eucalyptus tree. We planted a tiny tiny eucalyptus on the corner of the house a long time ago, but now it’s a huge tree. We cut the branches 2 or 3 times a year. During the summer, the branches were really growing and started touching the wires around the house. Now it’s worry free⁸!

 

 

 

 

 

 

  We also cut the branches of a conifer on the same day. Very luckily, Will’s friend who has a flower shop took all the branches home to use them in flower arrangements. That is a good recycle system!

 

 

 

 

 

  When we finished cutting, our little neighbor friend visited us. She wanted to come in. So adorable⁹! Our fatigue¹⁰ after the labor was quickly healed by this cute friend. Please come see us again — you’re always welcome!

自然と一緒に

　急に季節が変わりましたね！うだるような暑さに耐えていた夏の間は、植物を楽しむことが出来ませんでしたが、やっとグリーンライフを楽しむシーズン到来！今日はそんな植物との生活のご報告をお届けします。

①夏の間は、暑さで元気に育てることが出来ないので、植物は買わないと自分に言い聞かせていました。でも、やっと涼しくなって空気も乾燥してきました。そんな時に、こんな可愛い植物を買わないなんて誰が出来るでしょう。もちろん、買ってしまいました！この子たちは今窓辺にちょこんと並んでいます。（他のたくさんのお友達と一緒に）

②この収穫の季節、私の友人から２つ"バターナッツスクワッシュ"をもらいました。初めて食べました。見ても楽しい。食べても楽しい。ご馳走さまでした。

③暑さが去って植物がいきいきしています。人間も楽ですが、植物も楽そうです。私の好きな植物の一つ、カラテアが新しい葉っぱを伸ばし始めました。可愛いでしょ？新しい葉は棒状にキレイにくるっと巻かれていて、それがだんだんに開きます。来る日も来る日も観察するのがワクワク。

④やっとユーカリの木の枝を切りました。小さな小さな苗をだいぶ前に植えて、今では立派な木になりました。年に２～３回剪定をしなければなりません。夏の間、すごく成長して家の周りの電線に触れ始まってしまいましたが、これで心配無用！

　ユーカリの枝を切った日に、２階の屋根まで伸びたコニファーの枝の剪定もしました。ラッキーなことに、ウィルのお友達にお花屋さんをやっている方がいて、切り落とした枝をフラワーアレンジメントに使うとぜ～んぶ持っていってくれました。このリサイクルシステム、ナイス！

　枝を切り終わったあと、近所の可愛いお友達が来てくれました。家に入りたいよ！って。まあ～本当に可愛いこと！労働をしてクタクタになっていましたが、この小さなお友達のお陰で一気に元気になりました。また会いに来てね。いつでも待ってるよ！
