The Only Flower in the World!

 　

  Now we live every day with our attention on COVID-19¹. Sometimes, it’s a little difficult to have a positive mind, isn’t it? However, since everybody in the world is facing the same situation and living with the same feeling, we all have to do our best to live peacefully! We are in the same boat²!

 

 

  One thing which helps me and gives me happy moments is a colorful paper flower. On the shelf in my teaching room, I keep it. I like its vivid color which gives me energy, but I like it more because a little lady made it and gave it to me!

 

 

 

  One day, when she came to the class, she brought 5 paper flowers, and she explained to me that she had made them with her mom. They were all in different colors³ and there were several different kinds. Among them, there were maybe 2 which looked skillfully⁴ made, which, according to the little lady, her mom had done.

 

  After she showed them to me, she said very generously⁵, "I’ll give you one. You can choose the one you want!"

 

  I was surprised that she said I could choose ANY. Remembering how I was when I was a kid, probably I would have kept the one which I really liked and chosen the one I liked less, and given THAT one to another person. However, not in her case⁶! 

        

  So when I see this flower, I remember how sweet⁷ she is. That warms up my heart.

 

 

世界に一つだけの花

　今、皆が毎日コロナウィルスに気を付けながら過ごしています。時々、ポジティブな考えを持つのがちょっと難しくなることもありますよね。でも、今世界中どこでも皆同じ状況い直面していて、同じ思いで生活しているので、とにかく心穏やかに生きるように頑張るしかないですね！皆が同じ境遇にあるのですから。

　そんな私を助けてくれ、ちょっと幸せな瞬間をくれるものがあるんです。鮮やかな色の折り紙で作られた花。教室に使っている部屋の棚の上に飾っています。エネルギーをくれる元気な色も好きですが、なんと言っても、小さなレディが作って私にプレゼントしてくれたので尚更に好きなんです。

　ある日、その女の子がクラスに来たとき、５本の花を持ってきました。そして、ママと一緒に作ったのと説明してくれました。それぞれが違った色で出来ていて、花もいくつか違った種類が混ざっていました。その中には、如何にも綺麗に作られたお母さんが作ってくれたという花も２本入っていました。

　私にその花を見せた後、その子は寛大にも言いました。「１本あげる。好きなの選んでいいよ！」と。

　私は何を選んでもいいと言われて驚きました。自分が子どもの頃を思い出し、自分だったらきっと一番好きなのを一つ選び、あまり欲しくないのを他の人にあげるだろうなぁと思ったからです。でも、彼女はそうではありませんでした。

　だから、この花を見る時、その子の優しさを思い出すんです。私の心を温めてくれる花です。
