  On the 1st of December, I took the German test. Originally this year I was planning to take the CEFR French test called DELF, Level B2, but unfortunately I had to go to the Utsunomiya Jazz Festival with my band members on the test day so I gave up. Since I take a language test every year (I know I’m a language nerd¹!), I looked for another language test I could try this year — which turned out² to be German.

  So far English, French, Spanish, and Italian were kind of supporting each other and helping me learn, but German is a bit different. I had been avoiding3 German, however at the end I was glad that I was made to try this new language this time. I finally made a breakthrough³. It’s always fun to try something new!

  … but the fun part was not only this…

  On the test day I got on a bike and was happily bike-riding to the test venue⁴ in the fresh air of the morning. I was happy that I managed to⁵ make myself ready for the test and it was so refreshing to ride my bike early Sunday morning when everywhere was still quiet. I headed to Tohoku University.

  Early birds get the worm⁶! I got there a bit early and had a chance to see the rows⁷ of Metasequoia trees. Finally I saw them with my own eyes. I knew that Tohoku University planted them after they got them from the U.S. a long time ago but I didn’t know where they were and I hadn’t see them. They were just gorgeous! Their leaves were turning orange and they were breathtaking⁸!

  …and there was more! After the exam, since the university campus has a lot of beautiful natural scenery, I pushed my bike and enjoyed walking around the campus. Since I love collecting pine cones⁹ and stuff, I found some very interesting shaped pine cones on a tree (but they are not pine cones!). I got close and looked down on the grass¹⁰ to see if I could find some of them. I DID! I found some really beautiful ones here and there! CEDAR ROSES! I had seen them in photos but this was the first time to find them by myself. The German test took me to this wonderful spot! I felt guilty¹¹ taking them all, so I got 3 for myself and another 3 for my mom to display for Christmas. I was really thrilled¹²! 
 

  Without the German test, I couldn’t have experienced all these fun things. The whole experience was really fun, not only the language but the discovery of nature around me as well.
