It was wonderful, wasn’t it? Around this area, we really lucked out1. It was a clear night! And also, personally, I lucked out schedule wise2. My last class finished at 8:00.
Since I read that a total eclipse3 of the moon was going to start at 8:09, I had asked Will, who would finish working 30 minutes before me, to set up the telescope outside so that I could jump to the telelscope and start observing the moon right after my work. Toward the end of my class, I started hearing people’s voices outside, and I got excited and I had a hard time concentrating on4 my work. (Of course, I DID my work!)
Actually, when I left the house, quite a few people were alreday there looking at the moon. Right away, thanks to Will, I could look into5 the lens and see the moon being covered by the shadow of the earth.
To share this precious6 experience, we let other people look through the telescope. We are lucky to have a telescope. Since Will is a birding watching guy, we can always observe the sky with the telescope when there is a special event in the sky. So kids and adults took turns looking7 at the moon with the telescope.
These are the photos of the eclipse. Almost everybody took photos through the telescope and we had a lot of fun. (It needs a little skill to catch the image of the moon in the lens of the telescope. While struggling to take photos, the moon also moved, so we had to turn the telescope every 5 minutes or so.)

That night, we were out for more than one hour with our neighbors. After seeing the moon, some kids were running at their full speed on the road along the river. (Maybe they wanted to practice running for Sports Day?) Running while swinging8 flash lights in the dark, they looked like fire flies9 in the summer night sky. It is always nice to see kids enjoying themselves!

Before we went back to our house, our neighbor sent me this photo of Will on LINE10. To explain what we see in this photo because it is very dark, she said "This califlower looking thingy11 is Will-san!" That cracked me up12! So perfect!
