Another big earthquake! Were you OK?
I was in my room doing some after-work tasks. I grabbed1 my cat right away and held her in my arms2 (I managed it! That was my major worry). I kept my eyes on3 the heater since I couldn’t reach it quick enough4, but I managed to5 kill6 it soon after that. Other than that7, I just had to wait for the earthquake to stop, thinking what to do next while seeing8 so many books falling down and covering the floor.
We are getting a bit better (I wish it wasn’t necessary, though…) at protecting our house from earthquakes.
Because of last year’s earthquake (Tasha went out on the balcony because the earthquake opened the windows even though they were locked. Thank God she didn’t jump off9!), I put window stoppers on every window, and they worked this time.
Pictures, the TV and the clocks stayed as they were. After the huge earthquake 11 years ago, Will secured them with screws and wires on the wall.
The next problem to solve is how to keep my books from being10 covered with dirt11 during earthquakes. I love plants and I keep some on the top of the book shelves. It’s a difficult problem. Do I want to let go of12 my fun habit just because an earthquake might come? Hmm…
Cleaning up is a big task after an earthquake. Of course, it is a nuisance13 but it can be a good thing, too. I found a long-lost14 saxophone cleaning paper!
Right now, I tied the bookshelves, my starbucks tumbler collection shelves and the cupboards15 with strings so their contents won’t come out during the next earthquake. I hope the day will come soon when I don’t have to take precautions like this.
There is so much negative news around us, but let’s be careful about earthquakes as well as the corona virus and let’s hope that the fight between Russia and Ukraine will end soon. Let’s not16 feel down. Let’s be positive and try to see a brighter side of life!
p.s. The swans flew away last Thursday, March 17. I hope they are having a safe trip to the north!
